My name is LaLoutre, and I am an old otter who lives in the marsh of South Louisiana.  My home is in this dead cyprière, or cypress grove. When I was younger, this cyprière was alive and beautiful. With the time I have left, I would like to tell you the story of how things in the marsh used to be and how they came to be the way they are today.

LaLoutre (lä loot`, as in foot) is the local word for otter
Cyprière (s˘ı pr¯e âr`) is the local word for a grove of Cypress trees
